Reykjavík Grapevine - aug. 2019, Side 40
The Reykjavík Grapevine Best of Reykjavík 2019 40 Böðvar Guðjónsson Downtown figure Describe your style in 5 words: I can’t really. It’s nothing organ- ised. Casual, streetwear, I don’t know! Favourite stores in Reykjavík: Kormákur og Skjöldur. That’s the only store I do business with. They have their own design and also brands like Universal and such. There’s a lot of good stuff there. Favourite piece: A tweed suit from Kormákur og Skjöldur. Kristbjörg Lára Gunnarsdóttir Works at Wasteland Reykjavík Describe your style in 5 words: Weird. Mysterious. Colour- ful. Weird (again). Um… makes-peo- ple-stare. F a v o u r i t e stores in R e y k - javík: W e l l I work in Wa s t e l a n d , so… Wasteland. But I just find things here and there. I shop on the internet a lot, but I also like go- ing to Kolaportið and checking out Spúút- nik, Húrra, Yeoman, Ziska, and Aftur. I also sew myself. F a v o u r i t e piece: Hair is a big part of your ego so it’s my f a v o u r i t e piece. I love c h a n g i n g i t — m y h a i r i s o r i g - i n a l l y chestnut red but I’ve had it black, brown, blonde, pur- ple, silver, pas- tel pink, purple pink, with bee stripes high- lights, and my favourite, which is electric David Bowie homage red. I decide how I should be dressed from how my hair is. I get mine done by Kristín Egilsdóttir at Marmik Hair Salon. Deff Starr Drag queen Describe your style in 5 words: Cosmic. Chaotic. Supernatural. Spiritual warrior. Favourite stores in Reykjavík: Spúútnik and Góði Hirðirinn often have a lot of nice vintage things that you can take apart or customise. I also really like hav- ing a look at what Icelan- dic designers are doing. I’m a big fan of MYR- KA Iceland and I’m currently working with Darren Mark and Auland on some pieces and they are great. I also like to go into KronKron regularly to get inspired. I told the lady there that when I’m rich I’ll come back and buy everything. I think she thinks I’m joking. Favourite piece: For stuff that I have made, it is probably my shaman pon- cho jacket with pom poms on it. Everything was from a charity shop and I made the pom poms myself. I didn’t have a sewing m a c h i n e s o I h a d to staple and hot glue it together. O t h e r than that, the headpiece I wore at the last Drag-súgur show, which was made out of a Japanese fan, silk cherry blossoms, glitter-covered sheep jawbones, and more. It’s between those two.
