III. EYVINDARDALUR ON FLJOTSDALSHEIDI IN EASTERN ICELAND.

Experimental site: The experimental site is located in the highlands at
and elevation approximately 600 meters above seal level. The vege-
tation is variable in botanical composition, alternatively bogs, fens,
dryland, transitional zones between these, partly vegetated and com-
pletely barren gravelly flats.
In the upper part of the site there are thick erosional fronts and
deep gullies. The land has a 20% slope towards south-east.
Experimental design: The experimental design is shown in the table below
and the site diagram on fig. 4.

Procedure: The experiment started 24. July and was continued until 17.
September. There were 52 ewes with twins in the experiment. The same
number of lambs were of each sex.
Experiment sheep: From RALA experimental station Skriduklaustur.
IV. HESTUR IN BORGARFJARDARSYSLA IN WEST ICELAND,
I. Management experiment:
Persons in charge: Halldor Palsson and Stefan Sch. Thorsteinsson.
Livestock supervision: Jon Halldorsson.
Fencing supervision: Greipur Sigurdsson.
Experimental site: Height above sea level is about 50 m. The experiment
was carried out in two places on the lowland and also in the highland
commons. The lowland area was:
1. Cultivated hayfields on peat soil drained with open ditches. Two
of the pastures were open into an uncultivated bog pasture. In one of
the bog pastures sedgegrass is dominating, but sedge and dvarf-birch in
the other.
