and Zn content in ferromagnetic minerals of Andosols, some positive correlations were found
as exemplified in Fig. 1.
As discussed above, many trace elements are concentrated in Andosols in spite that these
soils are formed with strong leaching. This is possibly due to high affinity of allophane,
imogolite, Al-humus and ferrihydrite to many multivalent cations. As a result, content of
many trace elements in Andosols is higher than that of other soils in Japan. Thus, the content
of noncrystalline materials, i.e., Andosolization, and rock type of parent materials strongly
affect the elemental composition of volcanic ash soils.
