A SUMMARY
1. The climatic conditions
The climatic conditions were unfavourable in the southern and western
part of the country except for the last four months. Elsewhere in the
country the climatic conditions were relatively favourable except in
April and May. The mean temperature was 1.5° (C) below the average.
The precipitation was more than in an average year almost everywhere
in the country.
2. Population, Births and deaths
The lst of December 1983 the population of Iceland was 238175 (1982 :
235453). The population of Reykjavík was 87309 (1982 : 86092). The
estimated midyear population was 237041 (1982 : 233997).
The marriage rate was 5.9 (1982 : 5.6), the live birth rate was 18.4
(1982 : 18.5) and the death rate was 7.0 (1982 : 6.8) per 1000
inhabitants. The infant mortality rate was 6.2 (1982 : 7.1) per 1000
born alive. The perinatal death rate was 7.3 (1982 : 7.6).
