Bibliotheca Arnamagnæana - 01.06.1968, Page 45
f = AM 241 a, fol., pp. 44-45 and 49-50. AM 241 b, fol., IV.
(Facs. 184-187 and 188-191)
The two MSS are of different age and origin.
AM 241a, fol., contains on pp. 36 ff Officium sancti Thorlaci. Within
this liturgy two sequences are to be found. The MS was dated by Kr.
Kålund as being from the beginning of the 14th century. Text-area c. 21
by 15,5 cm.
AM 241b, fol., IV. Two conjoint leaves, written c. 1450 (see below);
the top lines are cut away and a corner of the second leaf is torn off.
Scribe: Jon Porlaksson. The height of the text-area in its present State
is c. 20 cm, the width 16—17 cm. The first leaf contains the bulk of a
sequence in honour of the Norwegian saint Hallvardus. On f. 2v (fac.
191), in the liturgy of June 29th, Ss. Petri et Pauli, there is a remnant
of a picture of St. Petrus in bishop’s attire placed within the initial N
of the Introitus, “Nunc scio vere ...” (a similar picture in a was
mentioned above).
g = AM 98, 8vo, II, ff. 5r-8r
(Facs. 192-198)
Text-area c. 11 by 6,5 cm. This is the sole MS of Norwegian or Icelan-
dic provenance which contains the whole Olavus-sequence “Lux illuxit
letabunda” from beginning to end. It is true that some parts are miss-
ing, due to the damaged State of some of the leaves, especially f. 7, but
as the music is repeated in the two halves of every verse (except the first
one), it can often be reconstructed where it is defective. This does how-
ever not apply to the “Amen”, but here the Norwegian fragment A
helps us out.
The following fragments, h-r, are remnants of liturgical hooks,
mostly single leaves, occasionally two conjoint leaves, which Kr. Kålund
has taken from bindings of different MSS in the Arnamagnæan Col-
lection (see below p. XLVIII). Many of them are trimmed. The leaves
have been grouped and numbered according to handwritings and con-
tents, but more detailed investigations are needed. Their library number
is Acc. (i. e. Accessoria) 7, but this is divided into Acc. 7aa, Acc. 7a/?,
Acc. 7b, etc. When sequences occur they are preceded or followed by
liturgy, and accordingly many pages are not rendered in the facsimiles.
The leaves in Acc. 7a/? are arranged in groups called “Codex A”, “Codex
