13. In Landsbokasafn, Reykjavik, several vellum fragments from
liturgical books are preserved; a catalogue, Skrå um skinnbloS f Lands-
bokasafni Islands, is printed as an appendix to Handritasafn Landsboka-
safns, II. Aukabindi, Reykjavik 1959. One of them, Fragm. No. 46, is
used in the present work p. 121 (fac. 175). According to the catalogue,
Fragm. No. 47 has the sequence “Martiris eximii levite Laurentii”, cf.
p. 232. It is possible that sequences may be found in other fragments
(Nos. 48 and 49?).
14. In AM 241b, fol., IX, there are some excerpts made by Årni
Magnusson from liturgical books that he had received from Iceland.
Here he copied some poetic texts leaving out the musical notes:
Ff. 13-15. “Omnipotentes (sic) semper adorant”. Printed in AH 50,
No. 122.
F. 16. “Gloria laus et honor tibi sit Rex Christe redemptor”. Printed
in AH 50, No. 117. Only the first 12 verses are written.
The source of the preceding texts was a defective “songbook” (Saung-
bokarslitur) that Årni Magnusson received in 1709 from Eyri in Skutils-
fjorSur (cf. Årni Magnussons Private Brevveksling, 1920, pp. 625-6).

11, No. 79. “Hoc antecedens carmen exscripsi ex fragmento codicis
membranei in 4t0 qvem in Islandia nactus sum . .. eratqve membrana
illa parum vetusta”.
Ff. 21-22. The bulk of the sequence “Hodierne lux diei”, see pp.
120-121, copied from a vellum from the church of Gufudalur. The copy
begins in the first verse: “memoriam. Huius virtus sacramenti”, etc.
Ff. 23-25. “In festo corporis Christi, Seqventia”, i. e. “Lauda Syon
salvatorem”, cf. p. 121. Probably copied from the same source as the
preceding; variant readings are added from two other MSS, “sed utroqve
mutilo”.
F. 29. Parts of the same sequence copied from a defective leaf. “Ex
libro Missali Scardensi Scardstrandensium in Islandia”.
Ff. 36-38. “In festis qvatuor Ewangelistarum, Seqventia”, i. e.
’Tocundare plebs fidelis“, cf. p. 288. Source not mentioned.
15. The protestant Church Ordinance 1537, which was introduced in
Iceland in 1541 and 1551, provides that “Seqventiæ et prosæ omnes
omittantur, nisi in tribus magnis festis Christi, ut Nativitatis usqve ad
Purificationis, Grates nunc omnes, cum vulgari suo cantico. Paschatos
usqve ad Pentecosten, Victimæ paschali laudes, cum suo vulgari cantico.
