AH enumerates 31 MSS., mostly German and Austrian, some
Italian, and a few others.
Since almost all sources derive from Dominican cloisters, probably
a Dominican of the 13th century is to be thought of as the author
of this spirited sequence (AH). Chevalier (Repert. No. 14047)
guesses that Albertus Magnus may be the author.
The assumption that this sequence is of Dominican origin is
supported by the melody of the 6th verse, “Hic est..etc., which
is mainly the same as that of the verse “Hic est novus legislator” of
the Dominicus-sequence “In celesti ierarchia”; see “In superna
ierarchia” pp. 144 ff.
