The melody is the same as that of “Hane concordi famulatu”, so
that no transcription of our sequence will be given. It is sufficient
to notice a few details. In v. 5 our source h is consistent with i in
“Hane concordi”. At the beginning of v. 6, and again where this
musical phrase, after some syllables, is repeated, source P has the
note e on the second syllable instead of d, as in h (and i in “Hane”).
The only discrepancy to speak of appears in the second half of v. 6,
where “Hane concordi” has the words “Ad dext(e)ram...” in a,
and “Se tibi” in b. Here the music of “Petre summe” is thus:
Ger- ma-noa dia- eor-des
Vl-cto-rea dl- ver- ae
In AH 75 MSS. are enumerated.
Notker Balbulus is said to be the author.
Instead of this Peter-and-Paul sequence, France, England, and
Spain used another one, namely “Laude iocunda”; in these countries
“Petre summe” found liturgical use only sporadically (AH).
