As stated by AH, this sequence is a remodelling of an older
Assumption-sequence, namely “Aureo flore prime”; the metre has
been preserved, and also the melody, entitled “Hodie Maria virgo”.
Five sequences are known to use this melody; but of these five
only “Aurea virga prime” appears in our collection. The three
examples which are not Assumption-sequences celebrate different
local saints; and the melody has been used by Italian, French, and
Spanish poets. This schema it not known from Germany; and England
is represented only by “Aureo flore”, not by “Aurea virga”. “Somit
wird wohl ein romanisches Land und speziell Frankreich die Ur-
sprungstatte dieses Schemas... sein.” (AH 53, p. 186).

From v. 2 on the melody is the same as that of “Nato canunt
omnia” from v. 1 onwards. Such is also the case with “O mira
domini pietas”. But there are so many discrepancies between the
three renderings of the melody intended to be the same, that it
has been thought convenient to transcribe it separately in each
instance.
On examining the music of the added introductory verse of
“O mira” and “Alle cantabile” we find that they agree with each
other fairly well; because “Alle-” here has a syllable less than
