25. C. rostrata — C. rariflora — C. chordorrhiza sociation
(Tah. VI A-B 2-3, 5-6 and Tah. VIx A-B 6-8)
All the observations are from the highland with hut one excep-
tion, no. VIx. 6, which comes from Snæfellsnes. However, this does
not represent a highland sociation proper, since C. chordorrhiza is
often absent there in extensive areas. The sociation is quite rich in
species, but it indicates a considerable relationship with the pre-
ceeding sociation no. 24, C. chordorrhiza, however, is the distingu-
ishing feature. Analysis VI. 2 is from Síðumannaafréttur at approx.
500 metres above sea level, but analysis no. 3 is from Fomihvammur
(approx. 320 metres above sea level), where the C. rostrata flói has
low mound ridges, covered with Carex nigra, C. Bigelowii and vari-
ous shmbs. Where the analysis was taken C. rariflora and C. chor-
dorrhiza covered just as much as C. rostrata, although the latter
was dominant in physiognomy. Analysis no. VIx 6 is from Snæ-
fellsnes, where C. rariflora disappears almost completely, since the
analysis is made near the border between mýri and flói. Analyses
Vlx 7-8 are from the Miklumýrar in Hrunamannaafréttur (approx.
500 metres above sea level), where the flói is rather dry and finely
tnound patterned. Salix glauca is conspicuous there. The sociation
is widely distributed through the area.
26. C. rostrata — C. rariflora — Salix glauca sociation
(Tab. VI X A-B 14)
Here only one analysis is available, and it is doubtful whether
an individual sociation is warranted in view of the similarity to the
preceeding sociation, i.e. no. 25. This one is perhaps best described
as a variant thereof. The analysis is made in Amarvatnsheiði.
27. C. rostrata — C. livida sociation
(Tab. VIx 9)
Here there is also only one analysis available from Hrafnkels-
staðir in Mýrar. The main characteristic of this sociation is C.
livida, which according to general knowledge hardly occurs at all
