Fig. 31 shows the geographical location of the geothermal areas
where deuterium measurements have been made as well as the
location and the measured ðD-values for a few individual sampling
points. The location and the measured ðD-values of sampling points,
other than those shown in Fig. 31, are then illustrated in more
detail in Figs. 32 and 35—40. The numbers given for each point
shown on the illustrations are the same as those in the first column
of Table IV in the Appendix. The ðD-values given are the mean
values obtained for the respective points. The thermal areas dis-
cussed in this chapter are:
Torfajökull (Fig. 32, sampling points No. 1-17)
Seljavellir (Fig. 32, sampling point No. 18)
Vestmannaeyjar (Fig. 32, sampling point No. 19)
Hveravellir (Fig. 31, sampling point No. 20)
Nauthagi (Fig. 31, sampling points No. 225-228)
The southem lowland (Fig. 32, sampling points No. 21-51)
Hengill (Fig. 35, sampling points No. 52-76)
The Reykjanes peninsula (Fig. 36, sampling points No. 77-87)
Reykjavík and Mosfellssveit (Fig. 37, sampling points
No. 88-121)
Borgarfjörður (Fig. 38, sampling points No. 122-140)
West and Northwest Iceland (Fig. 39, sampling points
No. 141-156)
Húnavatnssýsla (Fig. 40, sampling points No. 158-163 and 224)
Skagafjörður (Fig. 40, sampling points No. 164-177)
Tröllaskagi (Fig. 40, sampling points No. 178-186 and 196)
Eyjafjörður and Fnjóskadalur (Fig. 40, sampling points
No. 189-195, 197-199 and 200-202)
Laugafell and Marteinsflæða (Fig. 40, sampling points
No. 187-188 and 203)
S-Þingeyjarsýsla (Fig. 40, sampling points No. 204-223).
Comparison of the öD-data obtained for the geothermal water
with the deuterium map gives an idea about the recharge area of
the corresponding groundwater. The various geothermal areas are
discussed in detail in the following sections. Chapter 16 then gives
a general survey of the suggested origin of the various geothermal
systems in Iceland and their general flow pattem.
