238 M. P. CHRISTIANSEN therefore, that the Icelandic Taraxacum-species must be considered apogamous. 3. Identification of the Species found in Iceland. The literature gives little information of the Icelandic Taraxacum- flora. In ‘The Flora of Iceland and the Faeroes’, by C. H. O s t e n- f e 1 d and Johs. Gröntved only four species are described, viz. T. acromaurum Dahlst. T. faeroense Dahlst. „ croceum Dahlst. coll. „ naevosum Dahlst. As already mentioned above, the Taraxacum-flora of Iceland is rich in species, most of which have proved to be new to science. On my first journey, therefore, I was only able to determine a small number of species of the flora then quite unknown to me, hardly any more than the above-mentioned four species. The last two, however, were rather difficult to recognize, for in Iceland there are a number of spe- cies nearly allied to these two. It seemed likely, however, that still more of the species had already been described, and it was to be expected that some of the species were identical with Danish ones, the others with Norwegian, Swedish, Faeroe, Greenlandic or Scotch species. Of Danish and Scandinavian species of the group Vulgaria the following were found: T. angustisquameum Dahlst. T. sublaeticolor Dahlst. „ duplidens Lindb. fil. „ tenebricans Dahlst. These species only occurred in the sea-ports Reykjavík, Hafnar- fjörður, Akranes and Isafjörður, and under such conditions that they must all, without doubt, be supposed to have been introduced. None of the species was determined with certainty in the field. They were all untypical and almost unrecognizable, probably on account of the moist climate. The seeds from the plants in my garden, however, de- veloped perfectly typical specimens of the species mentioned above. Of Norwegian, Swedish, Faeroe, Scotch and Greenlandic species of the group Erythrosperma and Spectabilia the following were found, and partly determined directly in Iceland, partly during herbarium studies in the Botanical Museums of Copenhagen and Bergen. Norwegian: T. brachycranum Dahlst. T. Landmarkii Dahlst. forma. „ calanthum Dahlst. „ naevosum Dahlst. „ hypochoeris Dahlst. „ stictophyllum Dahlst.
