THE TARAXACUM-FLORA OF ICELAND
255
Stigmata virescentia, subtus obscura.
Achenium fusco-stramineum, 3.6—3.9 mm longum, 1.3—1.4 mm latum, superne
longe et robuste suberecto-spinulosum, ceterum + laeve, in pyramidem c. 0.8 mm
longam, sat latam, cylindricam—subcylindricam abiens. Rostrum 7—8 mm longum.
T. nematolobum has dark-green raggedly lobed leaves with almost thread-narrow,
toothed lobes; small, dense, light-yellow heads without pollen, and large coarsely
toothed fruit. As regards the leaves the species appears to be related to T. Landmarkii
Dahlst. from Norway, but differs from this species by its dense, bright head, the
female flowers, the bright outward-spreading outer bracts with the distinct humps
and the large fruits. T. Landmarkii Dahlst. forma from Hordaland, 28.VII.1923
(Lillefosse), whose leaves are of the same shape as those of T. nematolobum, is
perhaps identical.
The species seems to form a transition to the Fulva-group and might (?) be a
gigas-form of T. brachycranum Dahlst.
Habitat: The foot of grassy mountain-slopes, rock-ledges.
Localities: Múlakot, 5.VII.1937, fr., phot. S.
Geogr. Distr. : Only found in Iceland (and Norway?).
