Folia longa, anguste lanceolata, laete canescenti-viridia, subglabra, regulariter lobata, petiolis cum nervo mediano pallidis, lobis approximatis, latissimis, sat brevibus, deltoideis, patentibus, acutis, apice saepe parce hamatis, antice grosse • curvato-dentatis, lobo terminali parvo, sagittato- hastato, in apicem angustum protracto, marginibus concavis, integris. Squamae exteriores + adpressae, latae, ovato-lanceolatae—lineares, subtus obscure olivaceo-virides, saepe angustissime marginatae, supra laete virides. Calathium c. 50 mm latum. Ligulae marginales subtus stria cano-purpurea notatae. Antherae valde polliniferae. Stigmata virescentia. Achenium c. 4.8 mm longum, c. 1.4 mm latum, superne longe, robuste patenti- spinulosum, ceterum + spinuloso-tuberculatum, in pyramidem cylindricam, c. 0.7 mm longam, basi robuste spinulosum abiens. Rostrum 11—12 mm longum. T. armatum is recognisable by its narrow, regular leaves with deltoid lobes and the very long fruit, which is strongly spinous at the summit.—The cultivated speci- mens of this species grew rather large and coarse, untypical. Habitat: Home-fields. Localities: Skógar in Fnjóskadalur, 24.VII.1937, fr. N. Geogr. Distr.: Only found in Iceland. 47. Taraxacum hastile M.P.Chr. n. sp. Spec. orig.: Iceland, Blönduós, 14.VII.1937, leg. M. P. Christiansen. Plate IV, fig. 47. Plate XVII, fig. 137. Planta sat gracilis—submediocris, 15-—25 cm alta. Folia dilute viridia, sat lutescentia, parce araneosa, lingulato-lanceolata, profunde lobata, petiolis sat latis, cum nervo mediano pallidis, lobis 3—4 utrinque, altis, approximatis, deltoideis, patulis vel leviter reflexis, interdum apice incurvo, antice valde subulato-dentatis, dentibus saepe curvatis, lobo terminali magno, ovato-sagittato, breviter acuto, fol. exteriorum integro, fol. intermediorum supra lobulos basales et saepe sursum valde dentato. Involucrum c. 17 mm longum, basi ovato-truncatum, obscure olivaceo-viride, leviter pruinosum. Squamae exteriores erecto—patentes—laxe patentes, subtus obscure olivaceo-virides, albido-marginatae, supra glaucescentes, leviter laete purpureae, 3.5— 2.0 X 9—12 mm, ovatae—ovato-lanceolatae, interiores laetiores, apice purpureo. Calathium c. 40 mm latum. Ligulae marginales subtus stria luteo-purpurea notatae. Antherae valde polliniferae. Stigmata lutea—subtus sat obscura. Achenium c. 4 mm longum, c. 1.2 mm latum, superne dense, robuste, patenter, acute spinulosum, ceterum tuberculatum—sat laeve, in pyramidem cylindricam, 0.9—1.1 mm longam, basi 1—2-spinulosam abiens. Rostrum 7—8 mm longum. In the shape and size of the fruits resembles T. hastile, T. oxyphoreum, T. pravum, T. pergracile and T. subcrispum. In Iceland there occur a great number of Taraxacum-species with bright-green —bluish-green leaves with long sagittate—hastate terminal lobes, + dark-yellow heads with or without pollen and the outer bracts, sometimes roundish ovoid with a broad white margin, + appressed, sometimes narrower—very narrow; all of them have a large toothed fruit with a long, narrow, cylindrical pyramid. There are, no doubt, a number of species, but so far it has only been possible to delimit the above- mentioned with certainty; offspring of a number of the forms grew very badly in my garden and therefore were of little use in the segregation of the species.
