integra et dentata—parum lobata, petiolis sat latis—-angustis, + purpureis, nervo
mediano + purpureo, lobis 2—3 utrinque, latis, perbrevibus, saepe hamatis, acutis,
antice convexis, integris—parce denticulatis, lobo terminali mediocri—magno, ovato,
integro.

apice atro-purpureo.

Ligulae marginales c. 3 mm latae, subtus stria obscure brunneo-purpurea notatae.
Antherae polline carentes.
Stylus et stigmata virescentia.
Achenium fusco-stramineum (162—153), c. 4 mm longum, 1.4—1.5 mm latum,
saepe fere aequilatum, superne robuste et longe spinulosum, ceterum laeve vel leviter
tuberculatum, in pyramidem latam, |- conicam, 0.6—0.8 mm longam, inferne parce
spinulosam abiens. Rostrum 7—8 mm longum.
T. vestmannicum seems to be closely related to T. eximium Dahlst., but differs
from this species among other things by having fruits almost equally broad
throughout, and strongly spinose above. T. eximium has a tap-shaped fruit, the
summit of which is very broad and warty or finely spinose. A good mark of identifica-
tion for T. vestmannicum is the dark, small, but sharply white-marginated outcr
bracts.
The species is no doubt introduced.
