from the other species in the group by its thin, almost smooth leaves, and it seems
to form a transition to the Crocea-species with strongly coloured midnerve. However,
it seems to me more nearly allied to T. skutustadirense, see the latter.
It is no doubt spontaneous.
Habitat: Birch-copses, lava-fields, mountain-slopes.

Plantae mediocres—sat magnae, saepe robustae. Folia compacta, crassa, laete
canescenti-viridia, atro-viridia vel glauco-viridia, saepe purpureo-maculata, vulgo
valde araneosa, raro fere glabra, saepe profunde. lobata; petioli lati—angusti,
pallidi— + colorati. Squamae involucri exteriores saepe longae, patentes—diver-
gentes, raro erecto-patentes, + olivaceo-virides, laeves (vel haud callosae). Calathium
mediocre, laete—-obscure luteum, sat planum, + radians; ligulae marginales subtus
stria cana—cano-violacea, raro roseo-purpurea notatae. Antherae polliniferae, raro
polline carentes. Achenia 3.5—5.0 mm, saepe 4.3 mm longa (pyramide inclusa),
brunnescentia—brunnea, raro rubro-lateritia, superne saepe valde spinulosa ; pyramide
longa et saepe cylindrica, rostro 7—11 (raro 12—14) mm longo.
