CHRISTIANSEN pureo-maculata, plana, fere glabra, longa, lingulata—lingulato-lanceolata, sat parum lobata, petiolis angustis, pallidis—sat purpureis, nervo mediano ad medium paulo purpureo-brunnescenti, lobis 6—9 utrinque sat distantibus, a basi latis, triangulari- deltoideis, in apicem patentem, acuminatum attenuatis, antice sigmoideis—concavis, superioribus integris, inferioribus denticulatis, lobo terminali fol. exteriorum brevi, triangulari-hastato, integro, fol. intermediorum et interiorum longo, late hastato, + grosse dentato. Involucrum ovato-ellipsoideum, basi leviter turbinatum, dilute viride, apice obscuro. Squamae exteriores laxe erecto-recurvatae, 2.0—3.5 X c. 14 mm, lineari-lan- ceolatae—lineares, subtus sat obscure olivaceo-virides, supra laete virides, interiores apice obscuro. Calathium magnum, c. 60 mm latum, valde convexum, saturate luteum. Ligulae interiores + canaliculatae, marginales planae, c. 2.8 X 21 mm, subtus stria olivaceo- vel luteo-purpurea notatae. Antherae sat obscure, + brunneo-striatae, valde polliniferae. Stigmata luteo-virescentia. Achenium sat rubro-lateritium (103 D—142), longum et angustum, 3.8—4.0 mm longum, c. 1 mm latum, superne sat late, acute, patenter spinulosum, ceterum tuber- culatum—laeve, in pyramidem 0.8—1.0 mm longam, anguste cylindricam, basi saepe spinulosam abiens. Rostrum 9—11 mm longum. T. rubellum has long, narrow leaves, plentifully blotched with purple and with many lobes; large, light heads, and long, narrow, red fruits. It differs considerably from all other spotted species and is probably closely related to T. acromaurum Dahlst. Habitat: Ditches. Localities: Varmahlíð, 16.VII.1937, in quantity, fr., phot. N. Geogr. Plate XXXV, fig. 190. Planta mediocris—sat magna. Folia laete griseo-viridia, sat valde araneosa, petiolis alatis—sat latis, pallidis, nervo mediano pallido— + brunnescenti. Folia exteriora lingulato-lanceolata—lanceolata, parum et regulariter lobata, lobis 3—5 utrinque, brevibus, sat approximatis, deltoideis, acutis, patulis vel leviter hamatis, integris—denticulatis, lobo terminali parvo—sat mediocri, triangulari-hastato vel sagittato. Folia intermedia et praesertim interiora obovato-lanceolata, profunde lobata, lobis sat distantibus, sat angustis, + longis, acutis, patulis vel plerumque sat porrectis, + dentatis, lobo terminali brevi, late hastato, supra lobulos basales saepe grosse et robuste dentato, mucronato. Scapi folia superantes, + brunnescentes. Involucrum laete viride. Squamae exteriores lineares, laxe patentes, 2.5—2.0 X 11—14 mm, subtus olivaceo-virides, + anguste albo-marginatae, supra laete virides, apice dilute purpureo. Calathium c. 50 mm latum, planum, sat radians, laete luteum, ligulae marginales c. 2.5—18 mm, subtus stria dilute cana—cano-rosea notatae. Antherae luteae, parce polliniferae. Stigmata lutea.
