two areas of flá in the valley, and the analyses were taken in the
southem one. This flá is very like that of Háumýrar, especially its cen-
tral part. In the northernmost part of the flá, however, the rústs are
even larger, and here Carex rostrata and C. Lyngbyei are occasionally
found in the water pools. The southern flá is the driest; it is closely
adjacent to the aforementioned area of flag, which is probably a dried
up flá. Belt 1 is distinguished by the absence of Eriophorum polysta-
chyum, but its place has been occupied by Carex Goodenoughii which
is likewise dominant in belt 2 together with Salix glauca. In belt 3
the vegetation is open, with rather large open spaces. Dominant species
are Salix lanata, S. herbacea, and Empetrum nigrum. On the top of
the rúst, belt 4, Dryas octopetala and Elyna Bellardi dominate. Here
the vegetation is more closed than is usual in this belt.
Series 5-7 are from Kringilsárrani. Series 5 (Tab. XXV, 5) is from
a small area of flá situated in the middle of Kringilsárrani where this
is highest. Adjoining the flá lies the flag described above. The flá
