ICELAND REVIEW 85 CONVENTIONs Years of Experience a Key Success Factor We are very proud of having been a part of the organizing team for the biggest conference held in Iceland to date,” says Lára B. Pétursdóttir, managing director of Congress Reykjavík. “When organizing a conference of that size, with 2,450 delegates, our ex- perience is a huge benefit and is vital to the success of the event. There are millions of little and big things that need to be catered for and nothing can go wrong,” Lára adds. It is fair to say that everything worked out extremely well at the 89th Congress of the European Orthodontic Society (EOS). Among the comments received from congress delegates were “the orga- nization has been fantastic, superb planning, a very well structured event, no doubt this will be one of the most successful conferences that Iceland sees for a long, long time.” “It is very rewarding to receive comments like this,” Lára says, “especially for a complex project like this one. One of the key fac- tors in organizing a successful event of this size is the ability to form strong working relationships with both the organizing committee for the event, as well as all of our suppliers. Having been in this business for over 25 years, we know this and take pride in that knowledge. Another key is to make sure all processes and sys- tems work seamlessly. That is also something that we have learned throughout the years. Our processes and systems have been prov- en countless times; we have used them so often. We simply know what to do and have the reputation of delivering a good job,” Lára says with a smile. “Not only is the success of EOS 2013 a good thing for the com- pany organizing it. The whole conference industry in Iceland ben- efits from a successful event like this,” Lára points out.“One of the keynote speakers at the event said that Reykjavík will soon be one of the top ten international destinations for conferences. Those may sound like big words, but according to our project status in the coming months and years, we believe they are none the less true.” Congress Reykjavík, a leading PcO in Iceland, organized the eOs 2013 congress for the european Orthodontic society in Harpa, the Reykjavík concert Hall and conference center. lára b.
