Goðafoss (Waterfall of the Gods) is closely connected with one of the most historical events in Icelandic history,
the conversion to Christianity in the year 1000. Faced with the difficult task of settling the growing disputes
between the christian and the heathen parts of the populace, the lawspeaker, Þorgeir Ljósvetningagoði, despite
being a heathen chieftain and priest himself, decided that Iceland should adopt Christianity. Legend has it that
once he had announced his decision, he bade farewell to his heathen gods by throwing their statues into the
falls in a symbolic act. This is how Goðafoss got its name. Goðafoss is an impressive 12 metre high waterfall,
located in the north-east of the country.

Michelsen Goðafoss
The Waterfall collection was inspired by the watchmakers’ quest for perfection
and the exceptionally beautiful Icelandic waterfalls Svartifoss and Goðafoss.
These waterfalls deserve their names on a watch.

A fine Swiss mechanical movement, hand-beveled and hand-decorated by a 4th
generation Michelsen watchmaker. The Goðafoss features a high quality solid
stainless steel case with black coating (DLC), and a Swiss traditional dial made
by hand. Available with several strap offerings, including exotic Icelandic spotted
wolffish leather.
Old Herring FactOry – djúpavík
STEYPA is the name of a photography exhibition held
inside the old herring factory in Djúpavík, in the Strandir
region of the West Fjords. There, seven photographers
exhibit their very personal and individual views on Iceland.
The photographers are: Claus Sterneck (Germany), Emilie
M. Dalum (Denmark), Haukur Sigurðsson (Iceland), Jutta
Wittmann (Austria), María Kjartans (Iceland), Melinda
Kumbalek (Germany) and Sven Herdt (Germany). The
exhibition will be open through August 31, 2014.
ketilHús – akureyri
At the exhibition at Ketilhús: Gísli B. - Five Decades Of
Graphic Design graphic designer Gísli B. Björnsson who,
among his other works, designed this magazine for the first
20 years, looks back at his successful career. The exhibition
is in English and Icelandic. Open until August 10, 2014.
listasaFn íslands – reykjavík
The National Gallery of Iceland is holding a retrospective
exhibition, TRACKS IN SAND, of the works of sculptor
Sigurjón Ólafsson (1908-1982), one of the most influential
Icelandic artists in the post-war era and at the forefront of
the Icelandic art scene throughout his life. The exhibition
will be open until October 26, 2014.
saFnasaFnið – svalbarðseyri
At the Icelandic Folk and Outsider Art Museum you
will—as always—have a lot to see in addition to the per-
manent exhibitions. This summer the selection includes
38 prints by the Dutch artist Pieter Holstein, the paint-
ings, photos and poems of Leó Anton Árnason of Selfoss,
the embroidery of Arndís Kristín Sigurbjörnsdóttir from
Hafnarfjörður, and the sculptures of Harpa Björnsdóttir
from Reykjavík. *
