From downtown Reykjavík, the 502-kilometer (312-mile) drive
to Hverarönd, the geothermal area by Lake Mývatn, is the easiest
one of them all. Straight ahead, no twists and turns, just follow
the Ring Road 1 all the way to the parking lot.
When there, the first thing you will notice is the smell of sulfur
but you will forget that as soon as you arrive at the hot mud area.
The vivid colors will scream at you. Don’t be afraid; pick up your
phone, take an image and hit send. The receiver will not believe
