The State Dudget for 1933.
Just before the close of the last session of Althingi (parliament) in the beginning
of June the State Budget for the nexf year was passed, showing the following balance.
1000 kr.
Current revenue ........................................ 10 530
Current expenditure .................................... 10 727
Deficit 197
Capifal revenue ........................................... 498
Capital expenditure ..................................... 1 247
Deficit 749
The total deficit thus amounted to 946 thousands hr. To meet this deficit, as
well as such that may be foreseen for the current year, owing to the reduced yield
from many sources of income, several measures were tahen in this session of Allhingi
partly with the view to reduce the expenditure of the State, partly fo increase the re-
venue. Thus several laws imposing an obligation of expenses on the State were tempo-
rarily suspended and the expenditure according to them postponed for some time, and
some revenues, which according to law are destined to special purposes, shall for the
next time enter into the national treasury. Further it was decided to impose a special
import duty on benzine and on tyres and tubes for motor cars in order to partly de-
fray the expenses of the repairs and improvements of the roads. At last the Qovern-
ment was authorized to levy fhe income tax for the year 1932 with an addition of
25 %, provided that the financial position of the Exchequer should require it.
