With reference to the baneful effects
of the heated controversy in the New Ice-
land Colony in the early years, Dr.
Steinn Thompson says:
“One fact. . . stands out with greater
clarity than ever before; had it not been
for the strong, no-holds-barred stand of
the paper the whole Colony might have
been liquidated in the hubbub and
vanished from the scene ... I think it
can be accepted as a fact that the power
and influence of Framfari did much to
preserve the Colony”.3-
