APPOINTED ICELANDIC
CONSUL GENERAL
S. Aleck Thorarinson, Winnipeg Law-
yer and Icelandic Consul for the three
Prairie Provinces, has been appointed
Icelandic Consul-General.
In recognition of his community
services he was created Knight of the
Order of the Falcon by the Government
of Iceland in 1964. (See Icelandic
Canadian, Spring, 1975) He is Treasurer
of The Canada Iceland Foundation.

Robert Kristjan Sigurdson one of the
Winners of the Manitoba Government
Queen Elizabeth II $1,000 Award.
The winners of the Queen Elizabeth
II Awards have been announced by the
Manitoba government.
The $1,000 awards were presented to
65 students for outstanding, vocational,
academic, or athletic abilities.
The purpose of the awards is to focus
on the monarchy in the Queen’s Silver
Jubilee. The money was provided by the
province, through the department of
education.

Robert skipped his rink to the Mani-
toba high school curling championship
last winter and played on Manitoba’s
championship high school volleyball

Robert is the son of Alvin and Joyce
