98 THE ICELANDIC CANADIAN Vol. 60 #3 Building at 15212 117 Avenue. The Danish Library is huge but they have made room at one end for the ICCE books. It is very generous of Konrad to provide that space. The library is open May to August from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. and September to April from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is nice to visit there to browse the books and enjoy coffee and Scandinavian goodies. Our newsletter is called the NorSurljos Newsletter. All members of the club are provided with a subscription to Logberg- Heimskringla, an Icelandic - North American newspaper that comes out twice monthly. This provides a great incentive to keep your membership current. Membership directories are updated from time to time, the one published in 2003 was a real showpiece. It contained the names of all the members as well as a lot of good information about club activities. The Scandinavian Centre News, an excellent newspaper, was sent free to any- one who wanted it. That newspaper had to be discontinued as a result of the great increase in postal rates. Honorary Consul Al Arnason was appointed Iceland’s Honorary Consul for both Northern Alberta and Northwest Territories in 1978. Residing in Edmonton, he served as Consul for more than two decades, retiring in 2001. Al was active in the Icelandic commu- nity and was a strong supporter of cultural activities. He offered his house as a library (boksafn) for the club’s Icelandic books. He also sang with the Saga Singers. He chaired the Stephan G. Stephansson House Restoration Committee, which led to the establishment of an important cultural tourist attraction in Alberta. Al Arnason
