Neue Tageszeitung, Vienna
March 18, 1955: “From Iceland
came the pianist Rögnvaldur
Sigurjónsson with his virile
elastic touch . . . his technical
knowledge . . . The Nordic
music was represented by a
sonata by the Danish Niels
Viggo Bentzon, played with
feeling and virtuosity ...”
Vaart Land, Osla, March 24,
1956: “Not often does one hear
a piano virtuoso as we did last
night in the University Hall.
Rögnvaldur Sigurjónsson must
know everything about piano
technique. There seem to be
no obstacles for him, the music
streams from his lively hands
. . . he reached the great musi-
cal heights in the finale of
Liszt’s B minor sonata.”
Politiken, Copenhagen, Oct.
11, 1956: “The Icelandic pian-
ist Rögnvaldur Sigurjónsson
has in a rich measure the
technique which all pianists
dream about . . . yet he has
the sense of tonal poetry and
a musical charm, as obvious in
Schumann’s “Kleinkunst” - . ”

Kubushew, U. S. S. R., Dec.
13th, 1958: “At the piano is
the prominent Icelandic pian-
ist, Mr. Rögnvaldur Sigurjón-
sson. He commences the re-
cital w i t h the Chromatic
Phantasy and Fugue by J. S.
Bach, and one senses at once
that this is a pianist who has
eomplete control over the in-
strument. Genuine feeling and
tonal accuracy were in perfect
balance with the style of the
composition. Then we hear the
beginning of Liszt’s Sonata in
b-minor, and we witness a
dramatic narrative of complex
human feelings. This sonata
has not without reason been
considered to be one of the
most difficult works in the en-
tire world of piano music
literature, and precisely in
this work this unique and in-
teresting pianist shows his in-
terpreting power. He primar-
ily thinks of giving the broad
lines of the composition and
does not dwell on details.”
