15 day Viking wonderlands program
packaged by Long Island travel firm
NEW YORK — Anyone pondering
a visit to the Nordic nations will find
it hard to beat a 15-day "Viking
Wonderlands" tour arranged by a
Long Island travel agency.
Bellport Travel, of Bellport, N.Y.,
has set a June 26 departure date on
Icelandair from New York to Oslo,
Norway, for its package that will
concentrate on historic and scenic
sites in Norway, Denmark, and
Sweden. Ground costs of the pro-
gram total $943, with transatlantic
airfare on Icelandair extra.
Norwegian focal points include
the imposing Telemark region,
where the World War II movie,
"Heroes of Telemark," was set,
several fjords, among them the King
of Fjords-Sogne, breathtaking
Roldal and Stalheim Cqnyons, and
the birthplace of legendary Notre
Dame football coach Knute Rockne,
the village of Voss. In Oslo, Frogner
Park and the renowned sculptures
of Gustav Vigeland, the Viking Ship
Museum, Kon-Tiki/Ra Museum,
and general sightseeing are on the
agenda.
Sweden's itinerary ranges from
the exquisite Varmland province, a
trip past the country's longest lake
(Vanern), visits to Gripsholm Castle,
a glassworks at Granna, and a
journey on the unusual Gota Canal,
a 347-mile chain of lakes, rivers,
and locks linking Stockholm with
Gothenburg. Both of those cities
will also be visited and toured.
In Denmark, vacationers will see
Copenhagen and its Christiansborg
Palace, the Royal Theater, Amalien-
borg Palace, Rosenborg Castle, the
Little Mermaid statue in the harbor,
made famous by Hans Christian
Andersen, and Tivoli Gardens.
Hamlet's Kronborg Castle will be
another highlight.
Included in the $943 ground costs
are: rooms with private bath
throughout, two meals daily,

First day of
the summer
concert in
Selkirk
The Icelandic League "Bruin”
chapter of Selkirk, Manitoba held its
annual "First day of summer" con-
cert at the Lutheran hall on Thurs-
day, April 22nd. A film was shown,
followed by a sing song of both
Icelandic and English songs.
Everyone present then enjoyed a
lovely lunch of traditional Icelandic
food. The chapter will be entering a
float in the Selkirk Centennial
Parade in July.
