The Emil Gudmundson
Book Fund
One of the accomplishments of the
late Rev. Emil Gudmundson, D.D.,
was a thorough and intensive re-
search of the background and'history
of Unitarianism in the Icelandic
pioneer settlements in the United
States and Canada. This research
culminated in a series of lectures
which he delivered in Winnipeg and
Arborg in 1981.
Since then he had incorporated the
substance of these lectures into a
manuscript for a book. Shortly before
his death on December 27, 1982,
Rev. Gudmundson was ready to sub-
mit the manuscript for review by a
publisher. Arrangements for pub-
lication of the book are now being
carried on by his widow, Barbara.

Oscar Sveinson
Many members of B.C.'s Icelandic
. community were saddened to hear of
the death of Oscar Sveinson in
Nanaimo on December 12th. Oscar
had lived for many years in Van-
couver and during the 1960s and '70s
was' one of the most hard-working
and active members of the Club ex-
ecutive. With his wife Evelyn as his
willing assistant, Oscar worked
tirelessly to increase the Club's
membership and his efforts resulted
in the Club achieving it,s highest-ever
number of members — over 500!
Oscar and Evelyn were made Life

Obituary
Walter Martin
Johanneson
Aged 77 years, of 611-540 Oliver
Road, died in a Thunder Bay Hospital
on January 11, 1983.
Born October 7th, 1905 in Win-
nipeg, and moved to Thunder Bay in
1942. He had been self-employed as
a Manufacturers Agent. He was a
member of the Associated Canadian
Travelers and Port Arthur Lodge AF
and AM 499.
Predeceased by his parents Jonina
and Martin Johanneson. Surviving
are his loving wife, Bertha (Bert); one
son, Robert and daughter-in-law
Norma-Jean, grandsons, Davin and
Corby, all of Alberta; sister Margaret
and brother-in-law Charles Ross of
Winnipeg.
Funeral services were held January
13 in the Sargent and Son Funeral
Chapel, Thunder Bay, Rev. R.A.
Peden, D.D. officiated. Cremation
followed, with interment in Riverside
Cemetery.
Members of the Icelandic Canadian
Club of B.C. in recognition of their
years of service to the community.
Those of us who knew Oscar will
always remember his cheerfulness in
the face of adversity and his great en-
thusiasm for anything Icelandic! The
Icelandic Canadian Club has lost a
valued member and friend.
