Anna Johnson
News has just been received of the
passing of Anna Johnson of Vancouver.
Anna lived in the Elfros area in the early
1900’s. She passed away just one week
before her 97th birthday, August 6.
Anna worked in Miloffs store in Elfros
and in 1928 she moved to Winnipeg where
she worked at the Hudson Bay department
store for 35 years. Upon retirement, she
moved to Vancouver. Funeral serviceswere
held in the Icelandic Lutheran Church and
she was buried in Winnipeg beside her
mother. Mrs. Johnson was a long time
subscriber to the Icelandic paper.
Laufey
(Eyjólfson) Harris
Laufey (Eyjólfson) Harrispassed away
peacefully, November30,1989.Laufey was
bornat Langruth, Manitoba, Sept 11,1920.
In 1931 she moved with her parents to the
Lundar district. On Nov. 19, 1940, she
married Clifford Harris of Clarkleigh.They
had four children all surviving their mother:
Lillian and husband Ron Walraven, Robert
and wife Ann, Douglas and friend Marie,
Carol and husband Bill Malcolm, also five
grandchildren. Laufey was predeceased
by two sisters and her parents Guðrún
(Grímsdóttir) and Agúst Eyjólfson.
Thory Anna (nee
Palmason) Johnson
Thory Anna Johnson of White Rock,
B.C. passed away suddenly at Peace Arch
on January 2nd 1990 at 80 years of age. She
is survived by sisters Sigrun and husband
Arnold Chapman of Calgary, Laura and
husband John Ronachers of Invermere,
B.C., brother Norman Palmason and wife
Grace of Slocan, B.C., several nieces and
nephews, cousins and other relatives and
many faithful friends. Predeceased by
husband Walter in 1984. Also mother, fa-
ther, 3 brothers, Sigmar, John, and Gestur
and sister Svava Brown.
Memorial service was held on J anuary
13th in the Chapel Hill General Parlor at
146 15N. Bluff Rd., in White Rock, B.C.
Pastor David Dahl officiated.

(Struna) Dalsted
Anna K. Dalsted, 99, Missouri Slope
Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck, North
Dakota, died Monday, October 30,1989,
at the home.
She was bom December 21,1889, at
Mountain, North Dakota, the daughter of
Guðmundur and Sigríður (Bjarnason)
Johnson. Struna was raised and educated
at Mountain.
She attended the University of North

“Mayor Ted”
Ted Arnason passed away December 26, 1989, at the
Johnson Memorial Hospital, Gimli, after a courageous five
year fight with cancer.
Ted was bom in Gimli on June 25,1918. He was a tireless
worker, from hisearly days on thefamilyfann and throughout
his many occupations and business ventures. He served 4
years in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second
World War and in 1946, with his brother Valdi, started Amason’s
SelfServe, Gimli’sfirst“self-serve”grocery store. Hewas chief
electridan at the Gimli Air Base and was later active in a
number of businesses with his brothers Baldwrn, Joe, Frank
and Wilfred - Amasön Engineering, Amason Construction,
Amason Properties, and Willow Island Development Corpora-
tion which through the vision and determinatíon of Ted and
his brothers created Willow Island, a special place where the
Amason family enjoys the beauty of nature and the company
of family and friends. He co-founded Viking Travel Ltd. in
1974.
Throughout his life Ted displayed a strong commitment
to commimity service. He actively contributed to the many
organizations to which he belonged including the Kinsmen
Club, the Gimli Chamber of Commérce, the Masonic Viking
Lodge, the Khartum Shrine and the Royal Canadian Legion. In
1977 at an age when many are planning a quiet retirementTed
20 years and used his
consummate diplomatic
skills and generosity to
strengthen the ties be-
tween Iceland and Can-
ada. On November 17,
1989 he was awarded
Iceland’shighesthonour,
the Knight’s Cross, Or-
der of the Falcon, by the
President of Iceland.
Ted’s Iife was faith-
ful to the motto which he
taught his children and his grandchildren - “What you put
into the lives of others comes back into your own.” His
devotion to his family, his warmth and generosity, his love of
the company of family and friends, his integrity, and his love
of a

GimlL Throughout his 12 years in office he strove to treat
everyone fairly, to promote theTown of Gimli, and to improve
the lives of the residents of Gimli and the Interlake. He worked
diligently on numerous municipal committees and organiza-
tions. Two of hís many accomplishments are the successful
battle against the Garrison Diversion which threatened Lake
Winnipeg, and the construction of the Gimli and District
Recreation Centre. The high esteem in which he was held was

Bob and grandchildren Joey and Tommy; daughter Kristine
Becker and friend Robert Stevens and grandaughter Da-
nielle. He also leaves to moum his mother Petrina Arnason;
four brothers, Baldwin, Joe, Charles and Wilfred; three sis-
ters, Laura Holm, Margaret Markusson and Bernice Ar-
nason; and sister-in-law Marie Amason; and many nephews,
nieces and close friends. He was predeceased by his father

Ted had a special interest in promoting a greater under-

making many trips to Iceland and developing many friend-
ships came to regard Iceland as his second home. He contrib-

Cremation has taken place followed by a memorial
service at the Gimli Lutheran Church at 2:00 p.m. on
Thursday, Januaiy 4,1990, presided over by Pastor George
Johnson.
In lieu of flower s, contributions may be made to the Ted
Arnason Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 1499, Gimli,
MB. R0C 1B0, which is being established by the family.

Dakota for six summers and received her
Teachers Certificate. She taught rural
schools in Pembina County from 1906
until 1914.
Struna married Jóhann O. (Ole)
Dalsted on June 30, 1914, in Mountain,
North Dakota. Following their marriage,
they farmed near Svold, North Dakota,
until moving to Concrete, North Dakota
in 1925.
They lived at Walhalla, Cavalier, and
Grafton, North Dakota, before moving to
Grand Forks in 1939. They moved to
Bismarck in 1959.
She was the last living charter
member of the Svold Ladies Aid, and she
was an enthusiastic member of the
Quilting Circle at Trinity Lutheran
Church. Struna received an official
Centennial Certificate as a “Centenarian”
on October 26,1989.
In addition to hér husband, Ole, who
died on September 2,1970, she was pre-
ceded in death by her parents, four sis-
ters, Jensie Johnson, Stephanie Borg,
Helga Johnson, and Runa Crowston; and
four brothers, John, Bamey, Trygvi, and
Oscar.
She is survived by one son and
