Dear Editor
I am very interested in obtaining the
words to the Icelandic translation of
‘Springtime in the Rodties’ which was at
one time printed in the Heimskringla. I
believe the translation was Sig-Jul.
Johannesson’s. I am able to recall these
words:
Pegar vorið kæra kyssir, Klettatiöllin langt
í burt
Fer ég vestur kem ég til f»ín, fagra mær
með augun björt
Fer ég vestur kem ég til pín, enginn hefur
trúrri spurt.

I believe I was only about ten when
my grandfather taught these words to me,
and it is one of the few memories I have of
him.
I would be very grateful if any of your
readers could help me find this transla-
tion.

Dear Editor
I enjoy the paper very much and
would not care to miss it. You never
know what you might find. I opened
the November 24th issue and much to
my joy saw a picture of a dear and
familiar face, my mother, Guðrún
Helga Finnsdóttir. I read her story
(from her collection published in 1938)
and it is still very moving and poignant.
I was grateful once more to be able to
read and understand the Icelandic
language, (witha tinybitofhelpfromthe
orðabók).
I have enjoyed Lögberg-Heimskringla
for many years, and now, looking back I
remember many of the editors and their
varied styles. They had much to offer
and their standards were high. The paper
now has taken another path with
many articles and news items which are
of interest to all your readers. The photo-
graphs are an added pleasure. So we
continue to leam and to appreciate the
dedicated writers and the staff.
I think you are capturing more of an
interest amongst our young people - our
own family included. But - please keep
the back page the way it is - the “Icelandic
Connection”.
I truly wish you every success in
the future.
