Worst storm and flood
this century hits lceland’s
south coast
On the night of January the eighth, a very bad storm hit the south coast of Iceland. The waves
on average measm-ed 14 metres high, with the largest waves measuring at least 20 metres.
Two fish factories in Sandgerði bumed to the ground that night. Emergency dams gave in to
the force of the ocean at Eyrarbakki and three men were miraculously saved from drowning in
Grindavík. Fish, seaweed, and seal were thrown up on dry land.
