Letters to the Editor
Jan. 26,1990
Dear Editor,
Today I received my Jan. 19th issue of
Lögberg-Heimskringla here in Florida.
An article on page 3 is of great signifi-
cance to me, (76 Icelandic M.D.’s in
U.S.A.).
On one of our trips home from Florida,
I did what I always do, and that is to pemse
the phone book in the Hotel or Motel
where we stop for the night and look for
Icelandic names.
Back in the early 80’s during an over-
night stay in Macon, Georgia, I came upon
the name. of Sturla Stefansson. I called
him and as a result thereof we visited with
him and his wife and family several times,
as we were coming and going.
However, my wife and I have not gone
south by car for the last three years.
We exchanged Christmas cards and at
Christmas 1988 Sturla wrote a brief letter
along with their card and advised that he
had established a medical practice in
Milledgeville, Georgia.
On our way south this winter we pe-
msed every avenue we could think of,
trying to locate him and/or his business
and we could not so much as come up with
a phone number.

Seeing this in the Lögberg-
Heimskringla prompts me to write and
ask you or your readers for help (even
though only to get his phone number).
Sturla Stefansson is an Icelandic doc-
tor, educated in the U.SA, practíced as
an anesthetíst at a large hospital in Ma-
con. He did this all through the tíme we
knew him.
He and his wife are such a lovely couple
that we feel badly not being able to at least
speak to them by phone.
Any assistance you can provide will be
Tppreciated.
Sincerely yours,
Stefán J. Stefanson

Letters to the editor
Dear Editor,
I was disappointed when the scholar-
ship wiimers of the IODE were simply
named for the award they had received.
Do you not think it would have been so
much more interesting to read what they
had won the scholarships for, plus what
they are doing and what family they are
connected to in the Icelandic community.
The IODE puts so much effort into raising
these funds, and the students take consid-
erable tíme and effortto apply, itall seemed
tofallflat. Letkblowourhomabitmore.
Thanks for keeping the paper so inter-
esting and diversified.
Respectfully yours,
Lorna J. Tergesen
