4 « Lögberg-Heimskringla » Special Issue • Friday 28 July 2000 Stewart visits Vancouver INL Ken Howard Sandra Stewart, Executive Director for Library Development and Public Aífairs, University of Manitoba, attended a cof- fee party hosted at the Iceland House in Vancouver on the aftemoon of June 14, 2000. Graciously organized by Margaret Bjamason Amirault, with the support of the Icelandic Canadian Club of British Columbia President, Gerri McÐonald, the meeting learned of the VIP Millennium Campaign’s progress to date. Ms. Stewart noted that circulating materials in the University of Manitoba’s Icelandic Collection may be borrowed by interlibrary loan through your local library. In outlining progress she noted that renovations for the future Collection’s home are well underway, and invited those in attendance to the office opening October 20, 2000, to be attended by the Prime Minister of Iceland, David Oddsson. The meeting opened with a warm Tom Penway, Ann Penway, Eleanor Clarke, Olöf Eyford, Margaret Amirault, Sandra Stewart, Lara Thordarson, Harold Sigurdson, Margaret Hocking, and Kristin Olson. Photo œunesy ofsandra stewan welcome from members in attendance with gifts of photos and souvenir items from Canadian Icelandic astronaut Bjarni Tryggvason’s 1997 Discovery flight presented by Svavar Tryggvason, the astronaut’s father. Ms. Stewart said the VIP Millennium Campaign is striving to share Valuing the Icelandic Presence throughout Canada and North America. In requesting financial contributions, she noted that many Westem Icelanders are supporting the Campaign through memorial gifts honouring their parents and grandparents. In wrapping up her presentation she emphasized that every gift is important.
