Basketball Crown Meet Cancelled
High winds this week post-
poned the Intramural Bask-
etball Championship double
elimination tourney in which
the top eight teams would
vie for the Keflavik Inter-
national Airport title.
The winds tore off part of the
roof and the Field House crew
maintained a watch on the hard-
wood floors for possible water

entire patronage singing and
sharing the friendly spirit.
At the opera in the National
Theatre the guests saw a spirited
and accomplished presentation of
Don Pasquale by Gaetano Doni-
zetti sung in Icelandic by Thur-
idur Palsdottir, Kristinn Halls-
son, Gudmundur Jonsson and Gud-
mundur Gudjonsson. It was the
highlight of the day topped only
by a personal visit backstage with
the stars at the conclusion.
Mr. Njall Simonarson, secre-
tary of the Icelandic American
Society and chairman of the
American Field Service here,
said that he and his colleagues
hoped that their small token of
appreciation would in some way
show the deep feelings they want-
ed to convey.
Their daughters and sons are
currently living and studying in
cities throughout the U.S. Reci-
pients of this goodwill agreed,
as follows: A2C Dave Boat-
wright, Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina, bandsman of Air Forc-
es Iceland: “Our hosts couldn’t
have done anymore for us—it
was great, — the highlight of
my tour in Iceland.”
Naval Airman Ronald G. Jack
of Elsegundo, California, with
Naval Air Facility: “It was a
day I’ll always remember. The
hospitality, the Jonsson Museum
and especially the opera were un-
forgettable.”
A2C Jim J. Szwecyk, of Cleve-
land, Ohio with Air Forces Ice-
land — “I wish all the airmen
and seamen of the Iceland De-
fense Force could experience the
same wonderful warmth and fine
treatment we received. From the
hospitality of the Magnus’s to
conversing back-stage with the
stars of the opera, it was a ter-
rific experience!”
damage. The rains that followed
the winds were not enough to
saturate and fall through the
roof insulation; nevertheless,
Field House personnel are ready
to spread a tarpaulin over the
floor should the water come
through the insulation.
But the weather had no effect
on the league champions’ play
last week. The AFI team added
two more victories to make it
26-0 for the season. As of this
past Tuesday, AACS with 23-3;

Twenty-five members of the

the Navy’s Neptune \Patrol air-
craft and the Radio and Tele-
vision station. The Young Con-
servatives were led by Thorgrim-
ur Halldorsson, former president
of the society; he works as a
micro-wave engineer with the
1971st AACS Squadron.
Miss Gudlaug Kristinsdottir,
holder of the Icelandic 100 meter
dash, 200 meter dash, broad jump,
high jump, shot put, javelin and
discus records, and the field and
track record for 14 times, was
among the group. She showed
