LISTENING.ATTENTIVELY —
DIGNITARY ANNOUNCED—Iceland’s Prime Minister Bjarni Bene-
diktsson, escorted by Capt Robert R. Sparks, Commanding Officer,
U.S. Naval Station, attended Change of Command ceremonies. Many
other dignitaries, officers and civilians were present.

DINING TOGETHER—Admiral Weymouth and Prime Minister Bene-

BEING ESCORTED—VAdm C. E. Weakley enters through the path-
way toward the ceremonial platform, escorted by Capt R. A. H. Samp-
son, chief of staff and aide to Commander IDF. The admiral spoke
during the ceremony and congratulated personnel on the fine work
they’re doing in the free world’s NATO and common defense. Admiral
Weakley also gave praises to Admirals Buie and Weymouth on their
accomplishments.

guests who attended the Reception-Luncheon, Jan. 16, at the Officers
Club.
HEARING THE ANTHEMS—Standing in preparation for the Ice-
landic and U.S. national anthems are Prime Minister Bjarni Bene-
diktsson and his wife (center of photo) among the distinguished offi-
cers and guests. The Navy Band, U.S. Naval Station, Keflavik pro-
vided the music for the occasion.

monies held Jan. 16 at Hangar 831.

to Vice Admiral Weakley and
guests that he had assumed com-
mand; his flag was broken from
the starboard yardarm atop the
hangar.
Admiral Weakley addressed the
audience and briefly described the
responsibilities of the Commander
Iceland Defense Force which in-
volves both NATO and Icelandic-
American interests. He congratu-
lated Admiral Buie on the fine
performance he has maintained in
such a key position.
Following the ceremony, Ad-
miral and Mrs. Buie passed among
the guests, saying a final goodbye
to their friends. As they left the
hanger a formation of Air Force
Interceptors roared overhead, si-
mulcasting their salute with the
formation of military personnel
