Tonight, before the Vikings go into action, you may be
served a real treat by seeing the newly formed Alfred T.
Mahan Junior Varsity Basketball Team start off their
season. Under the direction of SH2 Bill Baird of Navy
Exchange, this team is starting to take shape and promises
to be a real threat in its own league. When asked if he had
a definite starting lineup, thef'
Junior Varsity coach told me that
his more promising players (listed
below) are sure to see plenty of
action soon.
Starting off the list of Junior
Varsity players will be Tony
Sparks, the team captain, Bernie
Smith, Kaj Devaney, Orlando
Cabcabin, Ronnie Heller, Nick
Potts, and Brian Loher, with as-
sistance from John Wesely. This
Team should prove very interest-
ing in the future, so let’s keep
our eyes on these boys!
Well, the last of the four six-
week periods ended today. Now
everyone is sweating out report
card time and wondering just how
well they did. You can sure tell
that the end of the school year is
approaching—the seniors are or-
dering their graduation announce-
ments already!
Good weather is starting to
visit us again. This is evidenced
by the large football games held
opposite the school during lunch
periods and on weekends. Let’s
hope it stays!
How did everyone like Mr.
Boulet’s Chemistry test last week?
I hope we don’t see any more
tests like that!!
Everyone is starting to relax
after working so hard on the year-
book. The material that is going
to make up this year’s Aurora
Borealis has been sent to the
States for publishing. The results
of the yearbook staff’s efforts
should be back to us in a bound
edition by the latter part of May.
I think we all should express
a deep feeling of gratitude to
Linda Dinwiddie, editor, Henry
Thornhill, assistant editor, and all
the rest of the members of the
yearbook staff. They have put in
long, hard hours and the least
they deserve is a small “Thank
You.”

The N.C.O. Wives Club gave a
welcoming luncheon for Mrs.
Ralph Weymouth, honoring her
arrival in Iceland, at the Reading
Room of the N.C.O. Club Feb. 17.
A corsage was presented to
Mrs. Weymouth by the club.
Other honored guests were, Mrs.
Robert R. Sparks, Mrs. A.E. House
and Mrs. Victor Loher. Each
guest was given a corsage and
was made an honorary member of
the N.C.O. Wives Club.
Club members celebrated their
annual Valentine Party Feb. 12
in the ballroom of the N.C.O.
Club. The party really got under-
way with a cheerful bang. Mrs.
Suzanne Spencer outdid herself
on the decorations. Around a silver
May Pole danced seven silver
Cupids with streamers of red and
white hearts. Surrounding this
center piece was a buffet dinner
“fit for a king.” Everybody had
a good time and many thanks go
to Suzanne.

The Hands Of Cantu
by Tom Lea
This novel is written by the
author of ‘The Brave Bulls’ and
‘The Wonderful Country’. The
hands of Cantu are the gifted
hands of the best horseman ever
seen in New Spain, Don Vito
Canto, and into these hands is
put the custody of young Toribio
de Ebarra. Together the two ride
to Acuichal, Don Vito’s great live-
stock hacienda, where Toribio
learns the fine art of horseman-
ship on the majestic Ibarra ani-
mals with their Cross-enflanked
marking.

Here is a chapter-by-chapter
discussion of each Commandment
and how it relates to the conduct
of man’s life in our era. In addi-
tion, Rabbi Kahn has gathered a
great deal of interesting informa-
tion about the origin and evolu-
tion of the Ten Commandments.
