Friday, August 27, 1965 WHITE FALCON 7 Scratch League Ends Season; Jones, Schriefer Team Win by Bob Vargo The Arctic Bowl Scratch League closed out its first season Wednesday Aug. 18 with another fine display of bowling. Perry Banker came in with a 243/630, John Nyeholt shot a 209/570 in his final appearance before being transferred and Clate Torbeck came up with another nice series 212/ 595. Others rolling pretty good were Marty Carr 236/576, Bob Vargo 566, Jim Jones 565, Tom Hockett and Joe Ralph came in with 545. by Clate Torbeck and Wayne Dale with each throwing a 244. Winners The team of Jib Jones and George Schriefer came in first place with John Nyeholt and Perry Banker finishing second. Third place was not decided until last moment with Tom Hockett and Joe Ralph nosing out Clate Tor- beck and Bob Howell. Hal Hoff- man and “Cab” Cabacini moved into fifth ahead of Norm Peters and Dick Vogt. Marty Carr and Bob Vargo finished strong, leaving cellar honors to Rick Atherton and Jerry Ness. Jim Jones took the high average and he will be taking his 185 average to Norfolk with him. The high series for the season went to Norm Peters with his fine 641 and individual honors were taken New League The new league will start Sep. 1 with three man teams rather than two man teams. All personnel having an average of 165 or over are eligible to participate. The league’s scoring system is based on the Peterson Point scoring system whereby each man and team is awarded point for outscoring their opponents. Bonus points are also given for games over 210 and series over 600. Spectator interest is also evident by the number of people who come down to the lanes to watch Kefla- vik’s own “CHAMPIONSHIP BOWLING.” Anyone who has the time is welcome to come down and watch the action, Wednesday nights at 5:15 p.m. 1. For the boys, Mike Babneau held the honors with a 144 game and a 256 series. The first place team is Team 1. Tagalongs The Tagalongs are holding first place in the Tuesday Women’s lea- gue, with the \Pink Panthers in second place. A 465 series was scored by Patty Kriescher. The high game goes to Betty Bucha- non, with a 175. High average of 153 goes to Annette Babneau. Kef Civilian League The Keflavik Civilian “League” battled for 1st place this week with Team 6 the winner and the Sand Baggers for the second spot. A 502 high series was taken by An- nette Babneau. iPolly Kupier rolled the high game with 177. An aver- age of 151 is held by Annette Babneau. Jack Sigmon scored 218/ 510 and A1 Babneau had the high series of 520 for the men. Harold Thompson holds high average of 173. Youth Strikers Win Trophies The Youth Center Bowling Lea- gue held its trophy presentation at the Youth Center Monday even- ing, Aug. 23. Individual trophies were given to Team 1 which finished in first place. The winning keglers were Cindy Hoffman, Lydon Whitmer, Terrell Jones and Helen Harned. Individual Efforts Also awards were given out for individual efforts. The winners for the girls were Judy Harned for high average of 126, and Cindy Hoffman turned in the high series with a score of 286. Dwan Webb captured high game with a 152 and the most improved was Helen Harned. The honors of the Sportsmanship award went to Lynne Fortini. Boys Win On the boys side, Mike Babneau struck for a 119 average and high series was copped by Harvey Roy- alty with a 312. Mike Bush rolled for high game with a 155 and Earl Litherland took home two awards with the most improved and the Sportsmanship award. Earl moved his score up 20 pins for the year. WHALE FLENSING—Blubber is cut from the whales that are brought to the Whaling Station at Hvalfjordur, Iceland. Special Services is sponsoring a tour to this tourist attraction, Sunday, Aug. 29.
