A. F. Promotions
Depend On Data
The Air Force has issued in-
structions on preparing super-
grade selection folders for con-
sideration by the Hq. USAF cen-
tral board.
The letter instructed commands
to forward folders on all eligible
airmen who are qualified and rec-
ommended for promotion. Air-
men recommended in two special-
ties will have two folders.
Supergrade boards convening at
the USAF Military Personnel
Center, Randolph AFB, Tex., will
select members for promotion
based on the “whole man” con-
cept. Procedures used will con-
form generally to those used by
officer selection boards, the letter
said.
Names of those selected will be
forwarded to commands by March
18. Hq. USAF orders will be cut
March 23 to make hikes effective
April 1. Reports on the number
of persons eligible for E—8 and
E—9 were due from commands
by Dec. 20.
Air Force quotas will be an-
nounced Jan. 10. Selection folders
on airmen recommended for E—8
are due in Hq. by Jan. 24 and
those for E—9 by Feb. 21.
Men Of The Month Receive
Certificates And Cash Awards
Delorne A. Goldbloom, A03, and A1C Larry L. Vansant, the Sailor and Airman of the
Month for the month of November, were awarded $25 checks and certificates of achieve-
ment by RAdm Ralph Weymouth, Commander, Iceland Defence Force during the cere-
monies in his office Tuesday, Dec. 21.
Marine of Month
The Marine of the Month, L.
Cpl. Jerome J. Geadrities, is at-
tached to the Marine Security De-
tachment at Hvalfjordur, Iceland,
and could not attend the cere-
monies. His check and certificate
were mailed to him along with a
from Admiral Weymouth.
Lance Corporal Geadrities arri-
ved at Keflavik in August, follow-
ing duty with the Sixth Marines
at Camp Lejeune, N. C. He is a
native of Scranton, Pa., where he
was graduated from Central High
spends his spare time studying
drafting, which he has chosen as
his profession when he completes
his military service.
Sailor Of Month
Sailor of the Month, Delorne
A. Goldbloom, A03, also arrived
in Keflavik in August. He is
Ordnance Training and Supply
Petty Officer for Patrol Squadron
Twenty-One. (VP-21). Prior to
coming to Keflavik, he served
with VP-21 in Brunswick, Maine.
Goldbloom hails from North
Branch, Minn. His hobbies in-
clude bowling, taping music, and
playing the guitar.
Airman Of Month
A1C Larry L. Vansant, Novem-
ber’s Airman of the Month, joined
the 932nd Aircraft Control and
Warning Squadron in September.
He is serving there as a radar
operator. His last assignment was
at the Air Force Base in Mari-
etta, Ga. Airman Vansant is from
Atlanta, Ga., where he was gradu-
ated from the J.C. Murphy High
School. His hobbies are hunting
and fishing.
The heart-felt well-done of the
entire station goes to these, “Men
of the Month.”
CONGRATULATIONS—LCdr Ray-
mond D. Avila is congratulated by
Cdr Richard C. James, executive of-
ficer of the Naval Station, after
attaining his present rank. Lt.
Commander Avila is Administra-
tive Officer and Assistant Mainten-
ance Officer, Aircraft Mainten-
ance Department (AMD). He has
been in the Navy 10 years and
was stationed at Ellyson Field in
Pensacola, Fla., where he was a
helicopter flight instructor before
he came to Keflavik. Lt. Comman-
der Avila hails from the Los An-
geles, Calif, area and is married
