The British Admirality announces that
the armed merchant cruiser Transylvania
has been torpedoed by a German sub-
marine in the Atlantic. — Thirty of the
crew are missing, but the remaining 330
have been landed at a west coasmt port.
The surviors have described how the
lifeboats capsized twice andthose in the
boats had to swim about untill they had
been picked up. There was a heavy swell
when the Transylvania was torpedoed. —
She was 16,923 tons and was the 6th
armed merchant cruiser to be sunk since
the beginnings of the war.

HUNT IN BRITAIN.

Troops in armoured
cars, home guards and
planes were engaged
yesterday in an extensive
search for German para-
shutists yesterday, in the
Midlands and the south-
west of Scotland, after
about 30 parachutes had
been found, most of them
in the Midlands. No re-
ports of capturned para-
chutists have come in and
in some quarters it is be-
leived, that the parachutes
were dropped empty, for
the purpose of disturbing
the people of Britain.
Rumours are circulating
that the German invasion
vvill soon begin.
