We have already mentioned before that we have not treated
the IE. roots with initial n (they number 47 in Walde-Pokomy’s
dictionary, with addition of the 16 sn-roots, such as sná-, sné-,
sneiguh-, sneg- etc.), nor the roots with “abstracta” meanings,
as these have developed from roots with “concreta” meanings
and the study of these demands a specific examination. But
it is evident that they belong to the fourth stage in the develop-
ment of human speech and are of no great importance in trying
to solve the problem of the first attempts at speech. Of the
