Movie review: Pete’s Pics Editor’s note: Pete’s Pic is written by Airman 1st Class Peter Michaelson whose hobbies include writing and movie watch- ing at Andrews Theater. This section does not necessari- ly reflect the official views of the White Falcon staff, the MWR Andrews Theater personnel or the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department. Star Wars: Attack of the Clones The Star Wars saga continues as Anakin Skywalker takes his first steps toward becoming the infamous Darth Vader. One of the most hyped movies of the year hits with less fanfare than expected as Attack of the Clones takes the theaters by storm. The newest Star Wars movie from writer/director George Lucas, this film tries to get back that feeling that a lot of fans felt was lacking from The Phantom Menace. Lucas, despite all of his success, is not the best writer or director out there. While the movie was good over all, a lot of the lines and some scenes (especially the romantic ones) fell flat. The actors, with the exception of Ewan McGregor, didn’t help much. Hayden Christensen (Life as a House) is the latest newcomer to the series, and while he shows a lot of potential, his delivery was a little wooden. Natalie Portman (Where The Heart Is) is not much better, and sometimes you wonder if she even really wants to be there. McGregor makes up for the others, though; his excellent portrayal of the young Obi-Wan Kenobi is virtually flawless, and he is very entertaining throughout the film. Overall, Attack of the Clones is a great film. With incredible special effects from start-to-finish and a story that is sure to intrigue, this movie is good for older kids and adults. Just don’t expect any Oscar-winning performances. Page 14 The White Falcon May 24, 2002
