BEMO Keeps Our Air Force Supplied

The Base Equipment Management Office (BEMO), building 734E,
handles the ordering and issuing of equipment to all Air Force
units and men stationed in Iceland.
They issue everything from a parka for a man at H-3 to a crane
for the F-102’sin the 57th Fighter Interceptor Squadron. Any items
not in stock are ordered through Base Supply (BASO), building
86 9A.
For example, new clothes washers and driers for the barracks
are requested by the first.sergeant Hq. Sq. Section, AFI. Since
these are not stocked items, the request is given to the Manage-
ment and Procedures Branch of BEMO where it is checked for
authorization, order number and price.
If the washers and driers are authorized, the request with prices
and order numbers, will go to the Equipment Control Department
of BEMO. Here, order forms are completed and sent to Base Supply,
where supplies from a supply depot in the United States will be
ordered.
Bulky items, such as the washers and driers, are sent from the
States via ship. When they arrive, BASO picks up the machines
and notifies the Operational Support Division of BEMO. BEMO
crews then truck the units from BASO to the barracks.
The newly arrived equipment is recorded on computer cards by
the Equipment Control Department where records are kept on all
Air Force supplies in Iceland.
BEMO operations are managed by 1st Lt. Peter-Scott Chamber-
lain and Tsgt Edward W. Chumbley.
