Riedinger; Admiral Moorer named 2nd Navy JCS chairman Admiral ThomasH. Moorer, Chief of Naval Operations, will succeed General Earle G. Wheeleras chair- man of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on July 2. A naval aviator who has held flag rank for 12 years, Admiral Moorer has served in command of NATO's Allied Command Atlantic and the Atlantic Fleet before be- coming CNO in 1967. Admiral Moorer is the second Navyman appointed to head the Joint Chiefs of Staff. A native of Mount Willing, Ala., he enter- ed the Naval Acadamy in 1929 and was commissioned an ensign four years later. At the beginning of World War II, Admiral Moorer was a pilot in Patrol Squadron 22 at Pearl Har- bor. Two months later he was shot down in a PBY north of Dar- win, Australia.
