Page 4 THE WHITE FALCON May 29, 1970 First and last stop New arrivals on base find friends at personnel office From the day he checks in until the day he checks out, a Navy enlisted man at the Keflavik naval station comes in contact with the Military Personnel Office dozens of times. Ready to serve enlisted personnel throughout their tour is a staff of 12, which handles administrative functions that range from job assignments to processing leave and liberty reguests. Lt. Cdr. Donald F. Causey, who recently relieved Lt. Cdr. Law- rence F. Bowman, is the station Military Personnel Officer. PNC James R. Cook is the leading chief and as office supervisor, is responsible for all paperwork passing through the office. When a new man reports for duty, usually after an all-night flight from McGuire AFB, N.J., his first encounter is with PNSN Donald L. Greif or SN John I. Nuttall. They first explain the new arrival's EAOS-- expiration of active obligated service -- and the length of his tour in Iceland. In most cases, single men are as- signed here for one year, and those with families for two years. After a new man's service record is checked for appropriate entries, Chief Cook as- signs him to a division. These assignments are made according to a man's rate, de- signation or other considerations, such as past experiences in a particular field. Finally, the man's record of emergency data is updated. Any changes that occur re- garding beneficiaries should be entered as soon as possible. Then the man is instruct- ed to check in with the disbursing office to collect his base pay accumulated while he was on leave, his leave rations, travel pay and allowances. When a man wants to take leave during his tour, he may run a special reguest through his division to his department and to personnel. SN Scott T. Reinitz types up the nec- essary papers and handles all matters concerning a man's leave. In addition, Reinitz handles leave extensions, liberty passes, applications for I.D. cards, emergency data entries and military pay orders for family separation allowances and commuted rations. While a person is on leave, the personnel office computes the number of days he is gone so Disbursing can make the appropriate entry in the man's pay record.
