LETTERS TO THE EDITOR, from Page 2
never sure of his fate nor the fate of his
family. He subsists on food worse than
we throw away. He is afforded only the
minimal sanitary and medical facilities.
He has no club to frequent, no wife to
soothe and comfort him, and worst of
all, little or no hope. All he knows is
thathehasmadeit so far, and with luck
he might make it a little longer.
With the holiday season approaching
perhaps we should pause and reflect on
our efforts to help those held prisoner
in North Vietnam. Efforts to send pack-
ages are either not accepted, or are ac-
cepted then doubtlessly "diverted" so
they never reach our men.
Personal letters have been reaching
the POW's, but of course they are cen-
sored, as are replies. One thing that
does appear to influence action in Hanoi
and thus benefit our men is the receipt
•etitions and letters from private in-
kuals...
o take advantage of this the Air For-
ces Iceland Junior Officers Council is
sponsoring a petition and letter drive
to be held between now and Christmas.
JOC representatives will be at various
public places on the station with peti-
tion material available for those wish-
ing to participate. It takes little time
to write a letter, and even less time to
sign a petition, so no one will have an
excuse for not taking part; is there any
excuse for not supporting our POW's?
Stop when you see the booth manned
by JOC volunteers and sign the petition.
You might even stir yourself enough
when you compare your Christmas to
that of the POW to write a letter. It
would be the most you can do to help
him today. Address your letter to the
"President, Republic of North Viet-
nam. " Tellhim you think the treatment
of our prisoners is inhumane. Request
that they abide by the Geneva Conven-
tion, allow Red Cross inspections, mu-
tual exchange of prisoner lists, and a
free flow of mail as a minimum. Mail
them to "Letters to Hanoi," AFI Box
59, LOCAL. The JOC will pay the post-
age to send the letters to Hanoi in one
package.
Do it today!

Five hour power
outage scheduled
for December 5
The Public Works Department will
shut off the power in certain buildings
this weekend lo make line repairs.
Recently the crossbars of a high vol-
tage electric power distribution pole
were severely damaged by fire.
It is dangerous to postpone replace-
ment of these crossbars because of the
risk of very serious line damage and
prolonged power outage in the eyent of
gale force winds. To make the emer-
gency repairs, power will be off from
9 a. m. to 2 p. m. on Saturday, Decem-
ber 5, 1970.
If weather does not permit the work
on Saturday it will be on Sunday, Dec-
ember 6, 1970.
The following buildings will be affect-
ed; 741, 743, 744, 747, 748, 756,757,
758, 759, 760, 771, 861, 862, 866,868,
872, 873, 890, 998, and POL facility
in Nickel Area.
