NX asks patrons help
with vending machines
The Navy Exchange has asked
patrons to help them maintain the
numerous vending machines located
around the base.
In noting that machines have
been abused in the past, the Ex-
change asks patrons to report any
malfunctioning machine so repairs
may be made. Continuous abuse
of the machines can only compli-
cate repairs.
The Exchange says these ma-
chines are located conveniently
to provide patrons with refresh-
ing snacks and other services 24
hours a day. Suggestions for im-
provements in the vending machine
services are constantly solicited.
Caller: Can I trade in my present car on a new car with an auto-
mobile dealer in Reykjavik?
C.A.L.: No. Cars not sold to members of the Iceland Defense
Force, military or civilian, must be sold to the Government of
Iceland. -------------------------------------------------------------
Caller: How many cartons of
cigarettes can I take back to the
States when I deros?
C.A.L.: There is no limit on
cigarettes. However, if you have
an unusually large supply, you
may have to justify their use to
customs officials stateside. The
limit on cigars, by the way, is
100.

Caller: I'm new here. Where
is "Action Line" located and what
are its hours of operation?
C.A.L.: CAL is located at PAO,
IDF Headquarters. The phone is

Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to
5 p.m.

The service took place in the
base chapel, followed by a social
hour in the chapel annex. Ona
Strand was the service leader.
The annual service began in
tdie United States in 1887, and
through the years has become
worldwide.
In 1968, the date was fixed as
the first Friday in March to in-
sure its falling within the Len-
ten period for the total Christ-
ian family, Orthodox as well as
Protestant and Roman Catholic.
An International Committee was
also formed in 1968 by national
committees in many lands. It re-
commends and develops the annual
themes. The theme for 1971 was

any source are redeemable if the
store has the product.

Caller: I'm unsponsored. Can
I take off a package I received
in the mail?
C.A.L.: Take the package to
the Icelandic Police Station and
have it inspected. It can then
be taken off if it does not con-
tain prohibited items.
Caller: Would it not be both
beneficial and convenient for the
American Express banking facility
to install a sort of "night de-
pository" box for the payment of
telephone bills?
C.A.L.: The expense involved
in acquisition and installation
of a "night depository" safe does
not appear justifiable, consider-
ing the current austere funding
situation. In addition, both
guard mail and local postal ser-
vices may be used to forward pay-
ments to the bank. These
services, plus the normal bank|
hours, would seem to provide
pie opportunity to pay phone bill's
without waiting in line for un
reasonably long periods.
