Earlier Saturday sign-on and many new shows
feature new AFTV schedule beginning Sunday
American Forces Television
Keflavik kicks off a new season
Sunday, Nov. 14. The change in
schedule was facilitated by sev-
eral weekly shows coming to an
end (Ed Sullivan, Jim Nabors,
Andy Williams and Hee Haw) and
receipt of library films gathered
during a recent visit by TV sta-
tion manager, Chuck Nason to
AFRTS in Los Angeles.
Some of the major changes in-
clude a regular 8 p.m. slot for
Tuesday Night At The Movies, in-
stead of "around 8:30"; a new 9
a.m. sign on time for Saturday
mornings; and the addition of the
Playboy After Dark series to be
run after the Saturday night mo-
vie.
In programming for the "new
season", station manager Nason
points out the emphasis on hard
drama in the evening and improved
Sunday and Friday evening viewing
which were viewed as less than
spectacular TV nights. To pro-
gram a balanced menu, several
time changes were needed for ser-
ies continuing on AFTV.
Among the program changes are:
Mod Squad to 8 p.m. Sundays; Glen
Campbell to 9 p.m. Sundays; Wild
Wild West to 8 p.m. Fridays;
Laugh-In to 9 p.m. Fridays; Perry
Mason to 10 p.m. Fridays; Gun-
smoke to 8 p.m. Saturdays and
Carol Burnett to 9 p.m. Saturday.
New programs appearing in the
new season are: AAU Internation-
al Champions at 5 p.m. Sundays;
Love On A Rooftop at 6:30 p.m.
Sundays; Twelve O'clock High at
10 p.m. Sundays; Kraft Music Hall
at 10 p.m. Tuesdays; The Fugitive
at 10 p.m. Wednesdays; Jackie
Gleason and The Honeymooners at 9
p.m. on Thursdays; Golden West
Theater (Roy Rogers, Sgt. Preston
or Wanted Dead Or Alive) at 11:30
Saturday morning; Voyage To The
Bottom Of The Sea at 4:30 p.m.
Saturdays and Honey West at 5:30
Saturdays.
Several new programs have been
added to the weekly afternoon
viewing, such as, Addams Family,
DuPont Cavalcade, Tim Conway,
Colonel March of Scotland Yard,
Bewitched and a weekly informa-
tion show. All information shows
and documentaries have been moved
to a 6 p.m. air time with the ex-
ception of Sundays.
Also added to the schedule are
regular 7:15 p.m. Saturday and
Sunday times for Greatest Fights
Of The Century, which will also
be shown ait various times where
needed during the week.
While the schedule reflects
new programming, some of the same
irritants remain. Weekly movies
will continue to be repeated un-
til definite word is received on
the status of restricted films.
And the less than popular Ralph
Story and Bobby Troup "fillers"
remain on call between programs.
A new season brings renewed
enthusiasm to the AFTV staff. It
is hoped that comments and sug-
gestions will be freely given by
calling Channel 8 at 4194.

The "people drought" at one
division on the base has lessened
due to new duty assignments and
volunteers. AFRTS recently wel-
comed a new news team to the NATO
base.
JOSN Paul Day becomes anchor
man for The World Report while SN
Bill Ordine, who has been filling
the news job, moves over to his
speciality in sports. JOC Mike
McCall leaves the staff for the
ADCOP program in Norfolk, Va.
Two female volunteers answered
the call to fill the shoes of Em-
ily Burnett who leaves Channel 8
upon the transfer of her husband
in a few days.
Jean Johansen will host an
afternoon ladies program at 3:45
on AFTV. Her half-hour daily
show will be called, "Coffee
Break", and replaces Emily's Af-
ternoon. Jean is rapidly working
on "putting the show together"
with emphasis on the coming holi-
day seasons.
Besides her new task, Jean has
been doing feature articles and
interviews for the Wives Club
magazine. She is married to 57th
FIS Capt. Louis Johansen and has
a son, Peter.
The other female volunteer
made her debut last night on the
Northern Currents program. She
is Marcia Willits who will be co-
hosting that program with JOSN
Day.
Marcia explains that she got
interested in the job to make
people more "community-minded"
about the NATO base and Iceland.
She is aiming for a "mqre easy
going" format with extension of
the half-hour scheduled time a
common thing.
Her new job will put her in
contact with virtually everything
happening on the NATO base. Mar-
cia is married to CTA2 James Wil-
lits who works at NSGA.
The "people problem" at AF^H
is slowly starting to subs:^B
with four talented newcomers.
