Helicopters are precision fly-
ing machines and they continually
need the attention of expert me-
chanics. Jet engine maintenance,
quality control, transmission
changes, supply, training, sup-
port equipment repair—these are
a few of the many functions of a
helicopter maintenance section.
These tasks are made even more
difficult by Iceland's remote lc
cation and harsh climate.
Such difficulties have been
overcome and Det 14's maintenance
crews, under the supervision of
SMSgt George Warhul and TSgt Bill
Austin, continually strive to
keep the unit's three "choppers"
in excellent flying condition.
Detachment 14 has never had t|
turn down a rescue request due t"
the non-availability of an "oper-
ational ready" helicopter. There
