3 months retroactive pay due soon
The Senate has passed and sent
to the President for signature a
bill which will allow federal
agencies, including the military,
to make retroactive salary pay-
ments to more than 3.5 million
military personnel, white collar
civilians and government re-
tirees .
The action stems from a Judi-
cial ruling that restored a pre-
viously delayed pay raise.
A pay hike for military people
and white collar civilian workers
had been scheduled to take effect
October 1, 1972. However, it was
delayed by executive order until
January 1, 1973.
The order was subsequently re-
versed by the U.S. Court of Ap-
peals , and the differences due
for that three-month period will
be paid to those military and
civilian personnel who were eli-
gible to receive the raise at the
time.
According to the Office of the
Navy Comptroller, the money will
be paid in the form of lump-sum
payments.
It is expected that payments
for naval personnel on active du-
ty who were on active duty bet-
ween Oct. 1, 197? and Jan. 1,
1973 will begin approximately
four to six weeks after the Pres-
dent signs the bill.
Back pay for Navy personnel
will be included in the July 15
paychecks. The payment schedule^
for other personnel will be an-i
nounced at a latex- date.
The table below lists the amount to be received as back pay for three months, retroactive from October
1 to December 31, 197? after taxes.
