Retires
Admiral Thomas H. Moorer, who
served as cnairman cf the Joint
Chiefs of Staff during me past
four years, retired from the Navy
on July 2 after 45 years of
active duty.
Admiral Moorer is the only
officer in the Navy's history to
have held command of both the At-
lantic and Pacific Fleets.
General George S. Brown suc-
ceeded Admiral Moorer as chair-
man of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
General Brown is the first Air
Force general to hold the na-
tion's highest military position
since General Nathan F. Twining
retired in 1960.

DIGNITY
The Freedoms Foundation letter
writing contest theme for this
year is: "HUMAN GOALS: THE AD-
VANCEMENT OF HUMAN DIGNITY."
The writing contest is open to
all active Service members, Re-
servists , Guardsmen and ROTC and
JROTC cadets. Letters must not
exceed 500 words or be less than
100 words in length.
Print or type full name, rank,
Social Security number, full mil-
itary address, Service or Res-
erve component, full home ad-
dress and Zip Code.
Here's what you can receive if
you are chosen as one of the win-
ners :
2 TOF AWARDS.....$1,000 each
1 TOP AWARD.............$500
2nd PLACE AWARDS...$100 each
3rd PLACE AWARDS....$50 each
ADDITIONAL HONOR MEDALS AND HONOR
CERTIFICATES will be presented.
Top awards will be presented
at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania.
Top winners will be invited to a
luncheon in Washington, D.C.
